Mosaic opals are very popular as they display brilliant colour at only a fraction of what a solid gem opal would cost.
A Mosaic opal has three components. A thin slice of small pieces of crystal opals glued a backing with can be black potch or manmade black resin.these small pieces opal are glued close together to give high visual impact of fire colours. The opal is glued on and the black backing greatly enhances the fire colour. a quartz or glass top is glued to top of the opal to protect it. Mosaics do make good ring stones but it is recommended not to get wet when washing dishes, we have seen many triplet rings over 20 years old that still look good and just need a polish on top which your local jeweller can do.
Mosaic opals have stunning fire colours and patterns.
