Boulder Opal Wood Fossil Specimens have only recently been available to mineral and opal collectors.

Petrified wood is common worldwide, but to find opalized wood replacement opal is rare.

The wood grain or timber cells have been replaced by opal over million years.

Mineral collectors have not yet discovered these are opal specimens.

Most specimens show the wood grain but some show round rings that people think are worm holes but are Ooids orooltic.

Ooliths consist of concentric growths around a nucleus, which may be a minute quartz grain with inclusion

Rare wood replacement specimens are hard to find in the Queensland opal fields.
