Opal Triplet Information
The opal triplet gets its name from the fact that there are three components that make it up: one thin piece of a crystal opal that gets sandwiched between a top layer of something clear and a backing that is black. Typically, this top layer is created from plastic, glass or quartz whereas the black backing is typically made from a man-made resin or black potch. The opal triplets get cut out with a type of wire blade that is very thin. They use a cutting machine that has a metal block that is about 4 inches long and has around 100 cutting wires that are extremely thin wires.
The black backing is used in this setup because it does an excellent job of enhancing the color of the opal layer, which really makes the piece stand out. The clear top layer is added on top as a way to protect the piece, making it more durable for a person to wear it. Because of these components that work together to make the opal triplet, this is a perfect stone option for rings. These stones are actually able to last around 20 years or even more, as long as it gets a polish from a professional jeweler occasionally. However, you should know that it is not a good idea to get this stone wet. If you do have an opal triplet ring, you should wear protective gloves to ensure that it is protected from the water.
One of the benefits to choosing an opal triplet is that you get a stunning opal piece of jewelry for only a fraction of the price. A lot of these triplet combinations feature some of the most stunning patterns and fire colors. You can wear your opal triplet jewelry on a regular basis, as long as you are sure to keep it properly maintained through polishing and if it is protected from water. These can be worn every day and still look quite incredible for years later. Knowing how to properly care for this gemstone will make all of the difference in the world with regards to how long it lasts. In addition to getting polished occasionally, you need to be careful with cleaning this yourself. Opal triplets are very strong pieces, as strong as most opal, however since they have been essentially glued together with an ironstone backing piece you do need to take a lot of care when cleaning. You should never clean your opal triplet piece with any strong chemicals or using ultrasonic cleaners. You really just need to take a slightly damp cloth to wipe it down. Be sure that this cloth is not too wet, otherwise you could damage the piece.
Opal triplets can help make stunning pieces of jewelry that can last for years with the proper care. Opal rings are by far the most popular choice for Opal triplets. If you are looking for a very unique piece of jewelry to add into your collection, you will absolutely love pieces that are created with opal triplets. These are affordable and stunning pieces that are unlike anything else.
