Opal Images Before Digital
Today it is so easy to take animage of an opal and send to anyone on earth.
Opal miners can dig rough opal and show their customers by using his mobile phone to take a picture and send, this was unthinkable even few years ago.
Opal miners and sellers would travel city to city to display their opals to shop keepers.
Below are photos that were taken by traditional camera where the film would have to be developed by a laboratory.
The photos were taken in 1999 to make as catalogue for the Sydney Olympic games.
It was difficult to take an accurate photo and in those days we would use different colour images to try and capture the true colour of the opal.
Each photo would cost $1.00 to develop and we would go through 50 to 100 photographs just to get and image that was accurate.
Today the digital world makes this an easy task.
