Opals Do They Have Secret Messages And Numbers?
Each opal formed by mother nature is unique and hard to find a similar opal. Every now and then you get to see a unique opal formation and this is what makes opal cutting so interesting. In 25 years I have cut hundreds of thousands opals and it is rare to find any wording, letters or numbers that are formed naturally in the opal. I can share ith you two such opals that I have in my collection. Number 5 Hearts Black Opal
First is black opal with heart shape pattern inside. Basically it is crystal opal on the edge with black potch in the shape of heart on back. This is interesting enough in itself as to how the opal was formed in a Heart shape. This is a natural heart shape and clearly visible. I actually sold this opal but the buyer returned it so I held up to the light to see if it was cracked. What I saw amazed me. The number 5 was clearly visible with light reflected at back like contraluz opal. And beside the number 5 is a Clef musical note. The number 5 is clearly visible and the musical clef note can be seen with a little imagination on bottom right hand side of this opal. This opal is now in my collection and not for sale
Koroit Opal Secret Messages
Around 2000 I did some opal mining at Koroit, after weeks I really didn’t find any good colour but had great mining experience doing trench testing for any more opal leads. I sent the material to Asia to get cut as it was all medium to low grade I asked cutters to cut opal as per rocks to make into sets or matching pairs .
There was a communications problem and I didn’t receive any sets but they cut and sent back all the stones in bags from the stone that they were cut from. One bag clearly had letters and numbers and I kept in draw and now 15 years later I decide to take pictures of these opals. Some images are clear others a bit blurry and some letters and words are on the side or upside down. Maybe you can see a message.
Seems to be dominance of letters R and N
