Folks here is the first of our annual Christmas Specials.
A magnificent piece of 8 Mile in the rough that weighs 1.02 ounces, mined in the 1980s.
The 8 mile field produced some amazing Opal and pieces this size are now very rare.
This piece was mined by the Gentleman in this video and one of his partners, from whom this rough comes from.
Fortunately, my friend is not shown in this video, so I can l share it with you. It does contain some colorful language, but it very entertaining.
8 mile shares a similarity with the famous Olympic field in that when the miners were first selling the Opal, they let it go very cheap. They couldnt keep up with demand, then a miner cut a piece properly and couldnt believe his eyes. Both fields, the Opal cuts a lot better than it looks in the rough. It needs to be faced up to reveal the true color.

This piece weighs1.02 troy ounces, measures 45 x 29 x 20mm
I think this piece needs to be sliced for several cabachons. It will also carve, and who knows, it may cut a monster cabachon or two. This Opal is very white, fridge white I call it and is very clean and pure.
It will tend to cut red opals with green.
