Before you start cutting, it is always a good idea to thoroughly inspect your rough opal, both wet and dry, to help understand if there are any cracks or sand that will need to be dealt with as you go. This Opal Magnifier has two lenses that allow you to see up-close details that you might miss with the naked eye. I find them particularly useful when trying to determine if colour bars go under sand spots. The shadow that the sand causes can be challenging to see without magnification.
There is a battery included with this jeweller's loupe to power both of the LED lights.
