Large 196ct Virgin Valley limbcast fragment with direct and contra-luz play-of-color!
This piece of opal boasts some flashy and vivid play of color. The base opal is clear crystal with a little bit of white haze. Its a fragment of a larger limbcast (petrified wood that has been replaced with opal) that broke into slices, much like a loaf of bread. As a result, its smooth on its 2 large faces, and displays wood textures along all the edges.
Weight: 196 ct
Length: 46.33 mm
Width: 41.62 mm
Depth: 16.25 mm
I Found this piece durring my visit to Rainbow Ridge (located in Virgin Valley, Nevada). Nevada is famous for its precious opal limb casts (pretrified wood that formed with, or was entirely replaced by opal).
As always, its hard to capture the full spectrum of its play-of-color with my phone camera. In video and pictures, the reds, blues, and pinks tend to be less vivid or not captured at all.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message!
**(Pictures and video taken while the stone was wet. Stone will be delivered in water to keep from crazing.)
