This is a doublet made from natural crystal from Coober Pedy and backed on to ironstone from Queensland to give a look of expensive black opal.
The workmanship and quality is excellent.

WHAT IS A DOUBLET ?
Doublets consist of two layers adhered together with glue:
- A thin slice of opal (normally transparent crystal ). The thickness of the opal in a doublet can vary, however it is generally thicker than the opal found in a triplet.
- A black backing which is made of either black glass, natural black potch (common opal), hard plastic or natural brown ironstone
