Over the last 15 years we have built up strong relationships with other Gem Dealers in the major cutting centres of the Gem world Industry, that is, India and Thailand, and with miners in Brazil and Peru, most are second generation highly experienced Gem Dealers.

We now source with our contacts, we give the exact descriptions on gems we are after and ask to source when gems come through their factories. They understand the rarity of top quality gems for good value and we have set orders for very particular gems.

It takes on average over a month to source a good gem that is certified, so it is a very long and slow process, as it is not easy to find clean gem stones in most parcels. We do not buy parcel lots for good gems, we have a high criteria to select the best gems.

Sometimes the gem merchant will see thousands of stones and pick out 10-12 in a month for us as they also understand that our buyers require exquisite quality gems at realistic fair value that is not retail price.

Our advantage is that we personally know our suppliers and they in turn know the exact mine and location that the gem came from and in some instances they know the depth that the gem was mined at. This insider information is what gives us a huge advantage to source valuable gemstones and to give our valued buyers full confidence in our gemstones.

opalplus
opalplus
Opal Plus has a rich history that began in 1990 when it commenced selling Opals in Perth, Western Australia. Initially, the business was closely tied to the mining efforts of Paul, who was extracting Black Opal from Lightning Ridge, NSW. The rough Opal was transported to Perth, where Wayne co-ordinated the meticulous cutting, polishing, and eventual sale as finished stones. By 1992, Opal Plus transitioned its operations to the vibrant Gold Coast of Queensland, establishing an Opal cutting factory. Here, the team engaged in the intricate processes of rubbing, cutting, and polishing an impressive average of 120 Black Opals each day. With numerous partnerships and Opal mining ventures in place, Opal Plus secured a reliable source of Opal rough material to sustain its operations. Expanding its reach beyond Australia, Opal Plus began catering to the markets of New Zealand and participated in renowned events such as the Tuscon Gem Shows in America and gem shows in Japan. In 1995, the introduction of Estella's jewellery creations added a new dimension to the business, as Opal jewellery became an integral part of their offerings, enhancing the Opal sales experience for customers across Australia and beyond.

Why are users outbidding themselves?

Automatic Bid icon
Automatic Bid

When a bid is placed, this is the maximum amount a person is willing to bid for the product. Our system will then automatically bid on behalf of the bidder, incrementally increasing the bid up to the maximum to maintain their position as the highest bidder.

When there is an icon indicating 'Automatic Bid', it means our system is actively placing bids for the bidder based on their maximum bid. This may appear as if bidders are outbidding themselves, but it's simply a result of the system updating the bid to reflect the bidders maximum limit.

Audit

The Opal Sheriff program allows our members to request an audit on any product, which is completed by an independent Gemologist who assesses the accuracy of the item description and pictures.
