Down Under Opals and Gems
Bringing you quality stones at competitive prices. Why buy retail when you can get the stone at wholesale price. Photos are taken under a mix of 3000k and 8000k LED lights. This combination is as close we can get to natural outdoor sunlight.
Opalized Fossil
Queensland , Australia
Mined at Duck Creek in Queensland and miner had it in his collection for a very long time, I was lucky enough to get my hands on it. Miner has claimed this material was mined 30 odd years ago.
Pictures have been taken with opal wet to show colours.
Septarian Formations
The actual geochemical processes leading to formation of opalized septarian structures are poorly understood, and clearly very complex. The opalized specimens are probably the result of many consecutive phases and mineral replacements, starting with desiccation cracks that developed as the wood decomposed in the opal sediments. In these specimens, the sedimentary host mineral (claystone or sandstone) is missing, leaving the intricate pattern of silica standing proud. The silica network is a record of fossilised cavities, a trace fossil.
